It hasn’t even been two months since the legendary icon Whitney Houston passed away while at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Now, just a few blocks away from there, the late singer’s clothing and jewelry is being auctioned off. Approximately $80,000 worth of bids were placed at ‘Julien’s Hollywood Legends’, where Clark Gable and Charlie Chaplin’s famous clothing were also bid on.
Houston was forced by a judge in 2007, to auction off a few clothing items in order to pay off a storage debt to a company in her hometown, New Jersey. Some of these items were bid on at the Saturday auction. A bustier, covered in beads, rhinestones, and pearls, worn by Houston during concerts, sold for around $19,000. A vest and two sets of earrings were sold for $8,500. The superstar’s collectors’ items have of course increased dramatically since the recent tragedy.
It’s obvious that Houston was loved by many, but of course nothing can compare to a mother’s love, and Cissy Houston has finally spoken out about her daughter’s death. The gospel singer told a New Jersey radio show, “I have my moments… I’m not there yet. I don’t think I’m any more courageous than anyone else. I am a true believer in God, if I could bring her back I would, but that’s not possible.” Cissy continued, “I know I did the best I could… I don’t blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything. She accomplished a whole lot in the short time that she had here… she was a very wonderful person. My children are my whole life… She was very special to me… she was my only daughter, and a good one. Looked out for her family.”
A trailer for Houston’s last film ‘Sparkle’ was released today on the Today’s show – watch below:
