Earlier this summer, former Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel asked the judge in his custody case with Kathryn Dennis to take away her custodial rights of their two children – Kensie, 5, and Saint, 3 – after she tested positive for cannabis during a court-ordered drug test. The judge just issued his temporary ruling denying Ravenel’s emergency request, but there are some rules Dennis will have to follow if she wants to keep seeing her children.
Ravenel and Dennis have been battling over custody of their children pretty much since the day Saint was born in late 2015 because the couple split just after his birth. Each parent has accused the other of drug and alcohol abuse and bad parenting, and in the past year, both Ravenel and Dennis have filed requests for full primary custody of the children for a variety of different reasons.

Essentially, Ravenel believes Dennis has a drug problem and Dennis believes Ravenel is an abusive womanizer who has a problem with alcohol. They are still waiting for a permanent custody order, but as of now, the judge is imposing joint custody, with Ravenel being the primary legal custodian.
According to The Blast, in the judge’s recent decision he ordered the former couple “to work together on health issues, education, and other important decisions.” He is also requiring Dennis and Ravenel to see a counselor and take part in at least three co-parenting sessions, and Dennis has agreed to cognitive behavior therapy.
At this point, Dennis is still able to spend time with her kids without supervision. However, the judge made it clear that she is not allowed to use alcohol or prescription drugs around her kids, and neither is Ravenel. The judge also told both parents that they can’t use illegal drugs with “any individual with whom he/she is romantically involved, or allow them to stay on an overnight basis when they have custody of the children.”
The judge also told the former couple that they have to be on their best behavior in front of their kids – no bad language and no talking bad about the other parent. He added that Ravenel and Dennis can’t allow Kensie and Saint to call anyone else mom or dad.

Finally, the judge said that both Dennis and Ravenel have the right to request a drug test for the other parent when they have custody of the children.
The judge will make a permanent decision and issue an order of child support in the coming weeks.
