Yes, you are reading this correctly. Lana Del Rey has covered Madonna’s sultry ballad, ‘You Must Love Me’ taken from the 1996 film adaptation of Evita, as part of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Unmasked’ Platinum Collection.

The compilation, which features Lana Del Rey’s take on the Madonna ballad, is due to be released on 16th March. The collection of tracks will showcase artists then and now, covering Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best work, all in celebration of his 70th birthday. Lloyd Webber is responsible for composing a wide catalogue of Broadway classics from 1981’s Cats to 2015’s School of Rock.

As of 2016, he has an estimated net worth of £715 million. Due to his award-winning success, he has gone on to pave the way for many composers we know and love today. ‘Unmasked: The Platinum Collection’ will consist of 71 tracks, featuring covers from Barbara Streisand, Nicole Scherzinger and even Boyzone!

However, the most recent release in anticipation for the compilation has got us all talking. It is none other than Lana Del Rey gracing us yet again with her dreamy vocals on her cover of Madonna’s ‘You Must Love Me’. The sultry ballad is originally taken from the 1996 film adaptation of the musical, ‘Evita’.

Covering a Madonna track is pretty big boots to fill – we must say!

Nevertheless, Lloyd Webber couldn’t have picked a better musician to take on the ballad. Not only did Del Rey prove that she is one of the best vocalists in the business right now, but she has added yet another great cover of a classic to her ever-growing catalogue of covers.

From covering Blue Velvet for her 2012 H&M Fall/Winter Collection to her cover of Sleeping Beauty’s ‘Once Upon A Dream’ in contribution to Walt Disney’s Maleficent soundtrack – there is no stopping this powerhouse vocalist!

In Feburary, Lana Del Rey wrapped up the North American leg of her ‘LA To The Moon’ Tour, finishing in Honolulu. The tour also includes legs in South America, as a part of the 2018 Lollapalooza Festival, as well as Australia and eventually heading to Europe in April. The tour has so far seen Jhené Aiko and Kali Uchis serve as opening acts, with Børns confirmed for the Australian leg.

In January 2018, Børns and Del Rey collaborated on ‘God Save Our Young Blood’, an instant grat track for Børns’ sophomore album, ‘Blue Madonna’, which dropped later that month.

Maybe Australia will get to see the duo perform the single live for the very first time?
