A 'beautiful and caring' East London mum died suddenly on the morning of her wedding in Trinidad. Nadia Joseph-Gosine, 33, died on December 7, 2022 of liver disease despite her sister and her fiancée not being aware that Nadia was sick.
Nadia, who lived in Beckton, had travelled to Trinidad, where her partner of five years and fiancée Devon Gosine, 37, lives, for their wedding. She had spent a few weeks in the country with Devon and her 10-year-old son Emari, but in the early hours of the morning on the night before her wedding day, she tragically died in her sleep.
Nadia's devastated sister Isha Daley, 37, remembers Nadia as 'a mini rebel' who was 'very lively and feisty'. "She was a very entertaining person," Isha told MyLondon. "She just wanted to be happy. A little fire cracker. She was very beautiful. Absolutely stunning. And she loved life, loved to travel."

Nadia's fiancée, Devon, told MyLondon she was "the most loving, caring, and genuine person" and the love of his life. Fighting back tears on the phone from Trinidad, he said: "She would go all out for you and she was the most hard-working. She was always happy. Whatever she was going through she was always happy. She was the love of my life. She was always the best part of my life."
He added: "I can’t stop being reminded of what happened. Seeing everything and still I’m in disbelief. After all that time we were finally getting married. We were preparing for the rest of our life and all of a sudden it gets taken away. It was the toughest thing."
On the night before what was supposed to be their wedding day, Devon says he and Nadia were up late talking. Some friends had called and wished them all the best for the following day. Devon said Nadia was struggling to sleep, but he thought she was just anxious about the big day.
He says he cuddled her and she fell asleep but when he happened to wake up at around 2am he kissed her on her cheeks - how he would normally wake her up - but she didn't respond. He realised she was unresponsive and knew something was wrong. Paramedics spent 45 minutes trying to resuscitate her but without success.
"It just happened all of a sudden," said Devon. "At least she didn’t have to suffer," he said.
Isha knew Nadia, who worked in retail at shops like Asda, Argos, and Lidl, had issues with her liver and kidney in the past, but was under the impression she was ok now. Now she has been told Nadia's liver was so damaged she would have died two weeks later even if she had got medical help. There was nothing doctors could have done earlier, Isha has been told.
Devon is looking after Nadia's son Emari in Trinidad as if he was his own. Emari has a different father, but Isha doesn't know where he is so she is prepared to look after Emari once he returns to London. Isha has a 16-year-old daughter who is close to Emari. They don't want Emari to travel home alone, though, and need to raise the money to book his flight, which will cost about £900.
Isha, who works for the NHS, said she doesn't think Emari has processed his mum's death yet, but "he does know she is no longer here and everyone keeps him distracted".
Isha also needs to find the money to have Nadia cremated in Trinidad - which she says costs 13,000 Trinidad dollars or around £1,500 - so is fundraising to meet the costs. Isha says her sister had cancelled her life insurance just three months before her death and didn't have travel insurance.
Isha told MyLondon that she is still in "hopeful denial" and it won't be until Nadia is back home that she will fully come to terms with her loss.
You can donate to help pay for Nadia's cremation and to bring Emari home here.
